More than fifty years ago, Staples student Christopher Lloyd urged English teacher Craig Matheson:  “Let’s put on a show.”

The rest is history.

That premiere — “You Can’t Take It With You” — spawned Staples Players.  Over the next 5 decades Players produced dramas, musicals, Shakespeare, one-acts, classics and original shows.   The organization won countless awards, and international acclaim.  It propelled hundreds of alumni to careers in acting, directing, playwriting, set design, lighting, costuming, even entertainment law.

We are proud that a number of our alumni have gone on to successful careers, but our primary purpose is to create an enriching atmosphere where young people can learn and grow through the fun of theater while developing new and lasting friendships.

The program has fostered a love and appreciation for the arts in scores of teens and propelled hundreds of alumni to careers in acting, directing, playwriting, technical theatre and other areas of the entertainment and arts fields.
